Milling is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses a rotating, multi-edged tool (called a milling cutter) to cut a workpiece. During machining, the milling cutter rotates at high speed (the main motion), while the workpiece is fixed to a worktable and fed relative to the cutter in a linear or curved motion. The multiple cutting edges of the milling cutter sequentially remove material, creating the desired surface, groove, contour, or cavity.
